s we approach the midyear point,
I make a mental note to check my
progress on some of those aspirational
resolutions I might have declared at the
beginning of the year. Eat healthier?
Check. Exercise more? I’m on it. Be
more in the moment? I’m trying. Sleep better? Let’s just
say I’m still tossing and turning over that one. I’ve even
enlisted the help of a sleep tracker, a clever little device
that, rather than track your fitness activity, monitors the
fits and starts to your sleep patterns. Medical experts
will tell you that a good night’s sleep is as important to
your overall well-being as good nutrition and exercise.
It also does wonders for your skin. In this issue’s Indulge
section, JWM explains how you can sleep your way
to better skin with tips on how to reverse the negative
effects of breakouts, wrinkles and under-eye circles,
especially when you travel.
But back to that eating healthier idea. Personally,
there’s nothing more satisfying than eating and drinking
good-for-you ingredients that actually taste good, too.
I’m all for a morning smoothie that, in addition to providing a refreshing start to my day, might include ingredients that add a powerful boost to my overall feel-good
factor. Now that it has gone way beyond Instagram-fad
territory, ingestible wellness drinks are a hot choice
when it comes to cooling off summer thirst. Take a look
at our feature, which reveals some of the refreshing (and
nonalcoholic!) summer drinks that mix in the latest
buzzy ingredients, including kale, chia seeds, ginger,
turmeric, cayenne pepper and coconut water. You might
never reach for a plain iced tea again.
And of course, we explore the places that never fail
to entertain and enlighten, and in the case of this issue,
dazzle with glamour. Discover the quintessential Riviera
seaside resort of Cannes. The vibrant timelessness of
Miami. And our destination feature city of Macau —
often referred to as the Las Vegas of Asia. One of my
favorite memories of Macau, once a Portuguese territory,
was a traditional meal we enjoyed on the lawn of the
JW MARRIOTT MACAU. It was the perfect opportunity to be mindful and present among the quiet oasis of
a resort garden. To come together with good friends for
extraordinary food and wine. And to feed the soul in the
most unexpected of ways.
