JWM MAGAZINE 4

EDITOR’S LETTER
ere in Washington, D.C., where the
hint of springlike weather makes my
heart sing, I can’t help but mentally
fast forward to September, when JW’s
second Venice food and wine festival
will take place. Last year, the inaugural
version of this four-day epicurean event was everything we
could have ever hoped for and more — a gathering
of extraordinary chefs, wine and coffee experts, and
connoisseurs of fine food, all immersed in the beautiful
surroundings of the JW MARRIOTT VENICE RESORT
& SPA, sharing their love of all things culinary. This year,
guests will find the nourishment extends well beyond the
palate to the soul — with the mindful addition of meditation and fitness opportunities — to ensure they experience
every moment in the present, and to the fullest.
Faithful readers of JWM and loyal JW guests know that
well-being is something we embrace with a great deal of
passion. I’d like to think that our hotels — through their
luxuriously warm environments, our people who love
what they do and the programs and amenities that allow
guests to reconnect and relax — restore a deep sense that
“all is well.” So it isn’t all that surprising that we believe
mindfulness is a key piece of the total well-being puzzle.
I’m embracing this concept of self-awareness, especially
when I travel. In this issue of JWM, “Arrive Refreshed”
offers some great tips to be able to function
at maximum capacity. I’ve downloaded some apps that
allow me to choose from a variety of soothing nature
sounds. I always have two big bottles of water to stay
hydrated. I have a special travel bag that contains a silk
face mask, Neroli water facial mist and Burt’s Bees lip
balm. But not in the bag are some mindfulness exercises
I’ve picked up to help me arrive at my destination well
restored. And yes, they work.
As for destinations, we inspire you to plan your next
journey with some great insider tips to eat, drink and be
merry in Austin, a favorite city of this native Texan.
We take a quintessential look at Cusco with a unique
cultural perspective of this fascinating South American
metropolis. And we surround you in Southern comfort
in Nashville, home to one of our newest hotels, the
JW MARRIOTT NASHVILLE. On a recent visit, I realized
how much I am in sync with Music City, U.S.A., with our
common fondness for country music and Lucchese boots.
But the city has grown into so much more than that, with
unique neighborhoods to explore, live music of all genres to
groove to and a killer cocktail and restaurant scene.
Which brings us full circle, back to food and travel,
which can nourish the body as well as the mind. [
