When you think about it, it wasn’t that long ago when “digital” or “virtual” didn’t factor into our regular vocabulary. texts were something you found on library shelves. Face time involved at least two people in the same room. and Skype wasn’t even a word.
Now, these terms are not just a normal part of our vernacular, but necessary ones,
particularly for those of us who are constantly on the go. i’ll be the first to admit
that reading “my Little Love Bug” to my young daughter via iPhone wasn’t exactly
a cuddly moment, but today’s technology has certainly brought us close—virtually,
if not physically—when i am traveling to our jw hotels around the world. in this
issue of JWM, we explore how digital and virtual technology has changed how we
meet. How we share ideas. and how we come face-to-face with the people we work
with and the people we love. No doubt you’ll find some great tips on how to make
the most of a virtual situation, no matter which side of the screen you’re on.
Speaking of cuddly moments, how many times has a parent told you to stand up
straight? or don’t slouch? our posture says a lot about us; a revealing interpretation
of our body language. Even my high school gymnastics coach used ballet to help
us be more confident performers, and for good reason: ballet requires a poise and
grace only attainable through perfect posture. our well-being article on posture
and the way you walk coincides with a very exciting partnership we have developed
with the joffrey Ballet, who in the coming months will be showing our jw hotel
associates how to enhance their own well-being and self-assurance with proper
posture and movement. the next time you check into a jw hotel, see if you notice
our associates walking just a little bit taller.
in this issue, as always, we speak to the passions we share with some great insights
into the next big food city (it’s mexico city); where to connect to the local music
scene in some of the world’s best intimate venues; and wine, with some expert advice
on when you should uncork that special vintage you’ve been saving for a special
occasion. we take you to cities that will be hosting iconic events this season—the
cannes Film Festival and indianapolis 500 are both in may—and give you insider
tips on how to enjoy both to the fullest. we also explore the city of Hanoi, home to
one of our newest jw hotels and a fascinating place that performs a balancing act
of poised asian grace and a dizzying western pace.
there they are again, those words—poise and grace—the effortless way in which
we orchestrate every aspect of the guest experience so that you can indulge in the
ultimate luxury in life—time to think and freedom to focus.
